Although sometimes described as an alternative medicine, osteopathy is a safe hands-on manual therapy for both diagnosis and treatment of a huge number of physical problems. It uses many of the same diagnostic methods as conventional medicine to establish the cause of physical symptoms. It is grounded in science, research and anatomical knowledge but takes a 'whole person' approach.

All osteopaths are trained to the highest level and must be registered with the government's regulatory body, the General Osteopathic Council. This means that osteopaths are regulated in a similar way to doctors and dentists.
Recommended:
Osteopathy is probably best known for treating back pain. In fact, it is a recommended as a treatment for low back pain by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) which develops national guidelines for GPs, hospital docotrs, NHS Trusts etc. This means that osteopathy is a tried, tested and recommended treatment for early back pain.
